Merav, Ujjval, Subramanian, Vijay enter quarterfinals

 Merav Nooyi and Ujjval Kansara moved into the quarterfinals to join second seed R Subramanian and fourth seed N Vijay Kumar in the men’s singles of the MIS Open Table Tennis Tournament, organised by the Indian Social Club Muscat. Schoolboy Merav Nooyi survived a scare before edging past ten-year-old Sachin Hemanth 12-10, 8-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7.
Merav struggled to win the first game and soon found himself trailing. Sachin was relentless and with brilliant attacking play, wrapped up the second and third games for a 2-1 lead. Merav won the fourth game to take the match to the decider and was at his best to win the final game. In the other second round matches, Ujjval rallied from a game down to defeat Sabah al Fadhil 6-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8, Subramanian scored a 11-1, 11-7, 11-3 win over Sujith Haridas and Vijay Kumar beat Ravishankar B V 11-7, 11-3, 11-0. Earlier in the first round of the men’s singles, Sachin overcame Dhruv Narang 12-10, 10-12, 11-2, 11-6, Aditya Sriharsha defeated veteran K Jackson 11-7, 11-4, 11-8, Merav beat Manish S Saki 11-5, 11-5, 11-4 and Ujjval faced some late resistance before overcoming Suraj Haridas 11-2, 11-5, 13-11.omanobserver
